The Australian National University Australian Football Club (ANUAFC), in partnership with SMEC Australia Pty Ltd (SMEC), is proud to offer a new AFL Women’s Leadership Scholarship in 2018. Following the success of the inaugural AFLW competition and surge of interest and participation in women’s in AFL in Canberra and across the nation, ANUAFC has joined forces with SMEC to build on the scholarship program launched earlier this year.

The 2018 scholarship is worth $5,000 per year for the duration of the recipient’s study program at ANU. The scholarship holder will also be provided leadership and career development opportunities, both at the football club and as speaker and ambassador for the ANUAFC, SMEC and ANU Sport.

Through the 2018 Women’s Leadership Scholarship, SMEC and the ANUAFC will provide a platform to support, communicate and promote the importance of diversity and female leadership on the field, on campus, in business and in the community.

SMEC, as part of the Surbana Jurong Group, provides global engineering consultancy expertise in Urban and Infrastructure Development and Management Advisory Services.  SMEC is committed to supporting and developing young women as professionals and leaders in STEM careers (science, math, engineering and technology) through a number corporate programs and academic partnerships.  Support of this scholarship will be provided by SMEC’s local Canberra team.

Club President, Caitlin Roy said “this scholarship further reinforces ANUAFC and SMEC’s commitment to women’s leadership, creating a pathway for future generations of women aspiring to seek academic and professional excellence, and play Australian Football.”

Applications for the 2018 scholarship will open today, Thursday 07 December 2017 and close Wednesday 21 February 2018.
