Cast your minds back to 2003. Hughy Marks was still in nappies, Schitty Greg was dealing trucker speed behind the West Wylong High School canteen and re-doing year 12 again, and first-year ANU student Daniel ‘Chaso’ Chaston had just rolled up at South Oval for his first kick.
On the field Chaso has been a hard-running midfielder and perpetually one of the fittest blokes at the club, and a key part of the 2000s Griffo midfield, voted Players’ Player by his peers in 2007. Despite several grand final appearances throughout his ANU career, Chaso had to wait until 2012 for his first taste of premiership success with the Griffs.
One of the genuine nice guys of the Griffos family, Chas has been a stalwart of the club for over a decade now, running the canteen with Rawlo for a number of years and currently serving the club as Vice President. Off the field, he’s a high-achieving doctor of science turned public health professional who’s currently retraining as a lawyer. What a guy! Get around him this weekend for his 200th game!
